We took a ride on the Skyline fully autonomous metro system in Honolulu, Hawaii westbound from Hālawa station at Aloha stadium to Kualakaʻi station in East Kapeloni in August 2023 on rolling stock built by Hitachi.<br />
The Honolulu Skyline is a light metro system in the City and County of Honolulu on the island of Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi. The first phase of the project opened on June 30, 2023 and lies entirely outside of Urban Honolulu, linking East Kapolei (on the ʻEwa Plain) and Aloha Stadium. It is the first metro rail system in Hawaiʻi and it’s been decades in the works. The system is fully autonomous and is expected to eliminate an estimated 40,000 car trips per day from the city’s streets.
