Your description is quite accurate, there hasn't been much change.
Line 5 runs a different schedule during the daytime. We noticed up to 3 trams running at the same time on line 5. Traffic was limited to certain times of the day, during noon there was a gap of a couple of hours without any trams running on line 5. This also happened on other lines, with line 5 having the longest interruption (which is logical, as the trams need to run on line 25 to reach the depot).
Tickets did still cost 7 Rupies, except for one time, when a conductor sold us a Ticket for 6 Rupies. On lines 5 and 25 we got some conventional tickets, whereas on line 24/29 I got a thermal printed ticket from the conductor.

Thanks for the info. This is a sign of a little improvement on Line 5. When I visited last year there was a max of 2 trams operating on Line 5 at any time yielding a 2 hour interval. If 3 trams operate on line 5, this means the interval must be less than 2 hours.

This wasn't a case last year. It sounds like a downturn, but it could also mean a slight improvement. When I visited there were simply less trams after about 12-13:00 due to shortage of drivers, and waiting for trams was next to impossible in the late afternoon. Perhaps the new trend is a sign of better crew availability management.

There are actually two fare levels based on distance of 4 km. traveled, established since 2018: https://wbxpress.com/tram-fares-2018/ It is just that most conductors don't bother with foreigners and sell them 7 Rs tickets by default )
It may be a slight improvement on line 5. But the system in general seems quite run-down. And ridership numbers have still been low.

That's reasonable. The one time we got the 6 Rupies ticket, the distance was to the Esplanade terminus was less than 4 km. Thanks!
