The principle of putting a pantograph on diesel and steam trams is not new.

It remains an exceptional situation and not many vehicles are known to have been equipped in this way. I saw a photo somewhere in Cologne, shortly after WWII, of a steam locomotive with pantograph, as a replacement for the tram.
