Informace

120px-ROU-SV-Suceava-Co-A coat of arms of Suceava

Suceava is a city in the Northeast of Romania and the capital of the Suceava country. Suceava today has about 92.000 inhabitants and is the centre of the Romanian Bukovina. Until 1918 the city was a border town between the kingdom of Romania and the Austrian-Hungarian monarchy.

The first form of public transport was a small railway line between the city centre and the Iţcani railway station in the North of the city, operated between 1897 and 1918. In the 20th century the city grew rapidly. Towards the end of the communist era the idea of an electric local transport system arose. The first two trolleybus lines opened in 1987. In the 1990s the network increased up to a length of 17 kilometres, when tracks to Iţcani railway station, Burdujeni district and Rulmentul industrial area were opened. The track to Rulmentul factory was as the first one closed in 2000. After that trolleybuses still operated on an 11-kilometer network.

The trolleybus fleet at the beginning consisted of DAC/Rocar 117E articulated vehilces only, in the 1990s also ten single trolleybuses of the type Rocar E212 were delivered. In 2003 only eleven trolleybuses were left in service and only one of them was an articulated one. They operated together with diesel buses until April 2006, when the trolleybus system of Suceava was finally closed and replaced by low-floor Irisbus Citelis buses. The trolleybus depot was located at Strada Traian Vuia street along the trolleybus track to Iţcani railway station. It is now still used as bus depot. We also can find several remains of former trolleybus infrastructure in the city.

In 2019 began the operation of some electric buses in the city. The local transport company SC Transport Public Local SA can be reached on the internet under www.tpl-sv.ro.
